Tre Cime di Lavaredo with kids

A symbol, a dream! Tre Cime had been on my bucket list for ages, so when we finally had some free time back in October, we immediately booked a holiday in the Dolomites. So worth it!

The Monumental Dolomites

The Dolomites are an Alpine range located in Italy and South Tyrol. The jagged, distinctive mountain peaks are quite unusual due to their geological structure. They are mainly composed of two different kinds of rocks, volcanic and dolomitic. This makes them truly unique! Their high peaks resemble the Argentinian Patagonia a little bit 😉 The geological structure, pointed peaks and high mountain passes comprise a remarkable landscape of the Dolomites.

Hiking around Tre Cime

Tre Cime di Lavaredo is likely the most famous mountain massif in the Dolomites. It looks surreal in photographs, and in reality it is absolutely breathtaking. Our plan was simple: hike around it with an infant and a six-year-old 😉 10km with the baby in a carrier and M. walking by herself took us roughly 4.5 hours, snacks, rest, and photo sessions included. We saw Tre Cime from every side, at different hours, admiring how beautifully it is illuminated by the sun. The trail was no challenge for our older daughter, and when it comes to the younger one – she did some sightseeing, and a lot of napping 😉 Although some fragments were a bit steep, the whole trail is totally doable with kids!

Cadini di Misurina

It would be such a pity to come all this way and not visit Cadini di Misurina. It is roughly 30 km away on foot from the shelter, but the views on the way are simply breathtaking. It can be quite challenging for people with vertigo (myself included), but the views stretching from Cadini di Misurina are so worth it. It literally feels like a different planet, so beautiful it is actually intimidating and overwhelming: the sharp mountain peaks, the seemingly bottomless valleys, the sun illuminating the narrow path that brought you there… A magical place – shivers guaranteed!

How to get there, where to eat

It would be hard to find a place located high in the mountains that would be more accessible than Tre Cime – which is one reason behind its immense popularity 😉 You can leave your car in a parking lot next to the shelter, from which you can immediately set off on a hike around Tre Cime. Right next to the parking lot, there are toilets and a shelter, where you can enjoy dinner, hot tea and coffee, as well as delicious desserts. From the shelter, you can also hike to Cadini di Misurina. Bear in mind that the restaurant closes for the winter season! In short, the area is safe and convenient for families with children.

Tre Cime is truly among the most picturesque places in the world. It is an iconic place in the Dolomites, which – thanks to its infrastructure and location – is just perfect for sightseeing and hiking with children. And it’s so fun! Don’t think twice about it, it is worth your while ❤️
