Why is a fall holiday a bad idea?
Fall is here. For most of us holidays are already but a memory. However, I would like to warn those of you who still have some time off this year (how come!? 😉). If you’re thinking about a fall holiday, think twice, for it may turn out that there’s no point…
Fewer tourists
Travelling outside high season typically means fewer tourists. If you hate waiting in lines, elbowing your way, sitting in busy restaurants and crowded beaches, travelling in the fall is NOT for you 😉 There are always fewer people outside high season, so you can catch your breath, relax, enjoy some sightseeing and all that maintaining social distancing. What a nightmare, right? 😉
No heat
No more scorching hot summer! Fall and winter in Europe are not good for heat-lovers 😟 Southern European weather (in Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Balkans, France) is just perfect for sightseeing in October or November. This is when temperatures are relatively high, there is plenty of sun, and a nice breeze. HORRIBLE. Especially if you’re a sucker for scorching heat and sweat! What’s even worse, the fall sun gives us no vitamin D and won’t burn us either, and who doesn’t love being red like a lobster? 😉
Lower prices
What a year, huh? You’ve made plenty of money, got all your bonuses, maybe even a few gold bars. Seriously, you’ve run out of ideas what to do with all that fortune? Despite you being ultra-rich and anxious to splurge all your money, I have bad news… off-season prices are typically lower, often significantly so compared to high season. Plane tickets, transfers, accommodation, tourist attractions, even restaurants – everything tends to be cheaper. So, if you DON’T feel like saving some money by paying far less for the same thing or service, fall holidays are definitely not for you. In fact, you should steer clear from them!😉
More options
Having too many options gives you a headache? Sorry, but once again fall holidays are not recommended 😟 Since there are fewer tourists and the number of attractions stays the same, you will have a lot more choice – choice allowing you to tailor your holidays to your individual needs and limitations. You can choose from a wide variety of local attractions, accommodation or means of transport. But who on earth would favor that in place of high season crowds? 😉
Spontaneity
Your friends tell you that one evening they came up with an idea to spontaneously go on a two-week family trip to some distant European country in three days. How do you feel about it? If “panicked” is the answer, than spontaneous fall holidays are not an option for you 😟 A fall holiday can be organized practically on one day, without worrying about tickets or accommodation availability. There’s no need to plan and book everything well in advance, since most places are easily available off-season. All you need to do is a few days to plan and organize everything, but again – who actually likes spontaneous adventures? 😉
Opportunities to go somewhere hot
This section will truly smash the idea of fall holidays. It’s common knowledge that there’s nothing like cold, rain, grey skies, mud and shorter days to make you feel great. An exotic trip (Thailand, Mexico, Indonesia, Morocco, Brazil), where there is plenty of sun, the temperature reaches 30 degrees, and the sea is warm? Yuck! Why bother soaking up the sun and bathing in the turquoise sea when November is such a lovely month in Poland? Why recharge your batteries for long, cold, dark months to come? Seriously, who would dream of escaping the grey, mundane everyday life? 😉
Jokes aside! If only you can do it (i.e. you have the time and the means), a fall holiday is an excellent idea! The only (though minor!) problem is school, though I know families who travel in the fall without any serious damage to the children’s school performance 😉 In fact, I find it hard to come up with any arguments in favor of summer holidays compared to travelling off-season. I have been travelling in the fall for years now and I honestly recommend it to everyone. Especially to families with small children! 😊
